Tales of a Fourth Generation Textile Executive

Past Event

The Old Country Store is honored to host Scott Fortunoff, President of Jaftex Corporation, on Thursday, November 29, 2018 for “Tales of a Fourth Generation Textile Executive,” a lecture and Q&A* visit.

Scott will bring a Trunk Show of quilts from FIVE well-known designers--Kaffe Fassett, Kim Diehl, Tula Pink, Tim Holtz, and William Morris! (What is the common thread that connects these five beloved designers? Their fabric is manufactured by Jaftex!)

CHARITY BLOCK DESIGN CHALLENGE! Jaftex and The Old Country Store are partnering for a charitable challenge. After registering, all Event attendees will receive (via mail) a mystery pair of fat-quarters from one of the five featured designers. If you choose to participate in the Challenge, sew the fabrics into a 10.5” x 10.5” quilt block, pattern of your choice. Otherwise, keep the fat quarters as a gift.

Finished quilt blocks** must be submitted to The Old Country Store by November 8 for inclusion in the CHARITY BLOCK DESIGN CHALLENGE. Everyone who submits a block will receive a $10 shopping coupon at the Event, as thanks for participating.

All blocks will be displayed at the Event on Nov. 29. Attendees will vote for favorites in five categories: Best Use of Color, Best Pieced, Best Applique, Best Non-Traditional, and People’s Choice. Winners of each category will receive prizes.

Event takes place at Shady Maple Banquet Center, 129 Toddy Drive, East Earl, PA 17519. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. A light buffet-style dinner (included in $25 event fee) is available starting at 6:00 p.m. Lecture begins at 7:00 p.m. CHALLENGE voting runs from 5:00-7:00 p.m.

Special fabric shopping opportunities, including precuts from the five designers, will be offered from 5:00-9:00 p.m.

*Event attendees: Submit a Q&A question ahead of time, and if Scott uses your question at the event, you’ll receive a prize! Email questions to Events@TheOldCountryStore.com with “Question for Scott” in the subject line.

**All blocks entered in the CHARITY BLOCK DESIGN CHALLENGE become the property of The Old Country Store who will oversee the completion of five quilts to be donated to Mennonite Central Committee’s Pennsylvania Relief Sale Quilt Auction (State Farm Show Building, Harrisburg, PA) on April 5 & 6, 2019.
