Fabric Down Under: Aboriginal Dot Art in Quilts

Aboriginals in Australia have created dot art designs for thousands of years. See how the current indigenous outback artists are the creators of fabric designs now used by quilters, sewers, and decorators everywhere. Discover the true meaning of the fabric designs as they relate to Aboriginal culture and real life in the desert outback. Over 30 actual fabrics will be on display and examined.

Phyllis Hatcher has personally visited the desert outback several times in recent years. In addition to offering lectures and workshops, she is an AQS certified quilt appraiser who appraises new, vintage, antique, and art quilts. Phyllis has also published a popular book on Victorian redwork.

Join us for this fun and informative presentation! Both seating options offer the same content, so choose the one that best fits your schedule. Light refreshments and beverages will be served.

This event will be held on the second floor of The Old Country Store.

Card Trick Quilt Retreat

Enjoy stitching a new version of that old favorite, the Card Trick pattern, and discover it's not nearly as tricky as it used to be! Instead of lots of triangles, this simplified pattern by the Missouri Star Quilt Company uses squares and rectangles.

Start with a package of pre-cut 2 1/2" strips (or dig into your stash for left-over strips to create a cozy, scrappy look). With all straight line sewing, this pattern goes together rather quickly, and you can choose to stitch any size, from table runner to king size quilt.

Teacher Lois promises, "We'll have a good weekend, with no tricks!" Join us, and plan for a relaxing weekend, with time to visit with your quilty "neighbors", drink coffee, and enjoy our town's delicious, local food.

This retreat runs from Friday evening through Sunday morning. A light welcome dinner on Friday evening is included. Students are responsible for all other meals and lodging.

A required supply list (pattern, fabric and notions) and additional information will be sent with your registration confirmation.
