Our Story

Look for our prominent welcome sign to visitors to our quaint little town.

A Historic Destination. Since 1978, The Old Country Store, located in the heart of the village of Intercourse, PA, has provided its customers with a wide assortment of fine wares. Today, The Old Country Store, with its selection of more than 6,000 bolts of fabric, gorgeous locally-made quilts and crafts, array of books and kitchen gadgets, and irresistible collection of locally preserved foods, remains a destination for visitors and locals alike.

The grand three-story brick building was built by the Eaby family in 1833 to provide local customers with clothing, housewares, appliances, and fabric. Today, locals, including many Amish and Mennonite craftspersons, and visitors shop with us for fabric, crafts, quilts, and wares.

Our Commitment is to offer exceptional customer service, whether in fabrics where our staff have extensive sewing and quilting experience, or in telling about our locally-made quilts and crafts since many of our staff are Mennonite or Amish themselves.

Locally handmade crafts are a Lancaster County tradition.

Locally Handcrafted Items fill The Old Country Store’s old-fashioned shelves. We sell thousands of handmade items–from quilted pot-holders to Amish dolls. The Store remains committed to supporting local craftspersons, most of them Amish and Mennonites, by featuring their locally-made crafts, rather than items from nationally manufactured gift lines.

Every quilt we sell is hand-quilted and comes with Quilt Care instructions since it’s meant to be used!

Home of the handmade quilt. Named “One of the 10 best quilt shops in the United States” by Better Homes and Gardens’ Quilt Sampler Magazine, The Old Country Store carries the highest quality, locally-made quilts in the area–at the best prices. Whether you choose traditional patchwork or contemporary applique, everything we offer is hand-quilted, and we guarantee our quilts will serve as family heirlooms for years to come.

Don’t be surprised to find tempting and useful kitchen gadgets!

Kitchen gadgets you didn’t even know you needed! Chosen for their old-fashioned charm or their clever appeal, our kitchen gadgets are as popular with local Mennonite cooks as they are with out-of-state visitors looking to take home a useful souvenir. We pride ourselves on surprising you with practical and affordable kitchen tools.

Brand names like Moda, Andover, FreeSpirit, and Robert Kaufman fill our fabric shelves.

Fabric Inspiration. The Store also provides everything one needs to make a quilt, including an impressive selection of quilting notions and supplies. Browse through our quilt books, and choose color-coordinated fabric packs for your next project. Or, select from our wide variety of pattern kits, carefully assembled by the Store’s experienced staff.

Students love the learning, camaraderie, and fun!

The joy of learning motivates us to offer sewing and quilting classes for our customers. Since 2012, we have introduced quilting to beginners and challenged experienced sewists by offering lesson on advanced techniques. Small class sizes and knowledgeable instructors bring students back multiple times a year.
