Tucker University: Phase 2

Upcoming Class

Keep up your learning momentum with the second phase of Tucker University and add three more of Deb Tucker’s Studio 180 Design tools to your "quilty" toolbox!

Tucker University helps you build accuracy and piecing skills. Each class covers a different Studio 180 Design Tool along with ways to expand the use of the tool, teaching you to "Tuckerize" any pattern out there. These are not "single-purpose" specialty rulers to clutter up your workspace, but instead they will quickly become the tools you reach for regularly!

As you learn each new tool, you'll make 4” units that can be combined to create exciting new blocks. You'll be able to create your own designs with these units and blocks- the possibilities are endless! And, if you use coordinating fabric throughout the course, you'll have fun blocks to stitch into a sampler after your last class.

Phase Two of Tucker University is a three-month commitment. The $145 registration fee covers all three sessions, and includes instruction from a Studio 180 Certified Instructor, a laminated Design Sheet for each tool (retail value $7.99, offers cutting charts, color planning aids, and a Blackline Master with 20-30 additional block options), and any required Technique Sheets (retail value $7.99) from Studio 180. Hint: You may want to get a binder to organize all these great references!

Class dates are Thursdays, May 1st, June 5th, and July 10th, from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Using the link below will register you for all three sessions.

Lesson Outline:
Session 1-401 Square Squared and Little Houses: Thursday, May 1st. The Square Squared Unit can be found within blocks as well as sashing. Since this unit is often used to connect other units, it’s important the points match up to the points of other blocks. Also this block can be used to frame a “fussy-cut” or embroidery design. In the past it required fancy math to achieve the precise measurement for the center square, but the Square Squared tool does the math for you. Save your sanity and those points with the Square Squared tool. Expand the use of your Square Squared tool by learning how to make Little Houses. Little Houses have been disguised in borders and have shown up in some star blocks. You will be astounded where these units show up.

Session 1-501 Corner Beam and Sliver: Thursday, June 5th. Quilters will be preserving those crisp clean lines and points by oversizing the components of the Corner Beam. Trimming the unit to the final size with the guidelines provided on the tool ensures precision when combining these units with others. This one tool provides eleven different sizes for trimming.
The Corner Beam will add many unique options to your quilt designs. The combinations of twists and turns makes it look as if you had to work with lots of odd shaped pieces when in fact you didn’t. The construction of a Sliver unit advances the use of the Corner Beam and once again makes precise piecing look so difficult!

Session 1-601 Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star Basic Construction: Thursday, July 10th. Volcanoes don’t belong in the center of an eight-pointed star and they won’t happen to you when you use the Rapid Fire Lemoyne Star tool. And there are no y-seams or templates! Be thoroughly stunned when you learn how to make a Lemoyne Star using a strip method. You will be able to make blocks as small as 3” all the way up to 12” with the same level of accuracy.

The registration fee does not include the cost of supplies. Click on the link below to view the supply list for the first class.

This class is not eligible for the Day of Class Discount.

The May class will be held in Classroom 2.
