Past Class
The Old Country Store is delighted to offer another hands-on class with award-winning quilter and fiber artist, Joyce Hughes! Joyce uses her domestic sewing machine to create breathtaking fabric panels and quilts using raw-edge appliqué, thread painting and other embellishment techniques. She is eager to show you how to do it, too!
If you've wanted to learn Dimensional Thread Painting, but always thought it too hard, let Joyce prove that you can do it. She often hears, “I am not creative! Can my machine do this?" Joyce's answer is, "Yes, you are creative and, yes, you can do this on your domestic sewing machine!"
Start with Northcott's beautiful Maplewood panel. Follow the proper steps of Dimensional Thread Painting as you learn to navigate the wide world of thread, set up your machine for free-motion stitching techniques (zig-zag and straight stitch), and practice bobbin work.
See the fabric come to life as you "paint" with different types and color combinations of thread. Then take a second, identical panel, cut out elements to layer on top of the original panel, and create even more interesting texture and dimension. You will leave with a full knowledge of Dimensional Thread Painting and a one-of-a-kind piece of art!
Techniques Taught: Free Motion Quilting, Dimensional Thread Painting, Bobbin Work and More!
Experience Level: Some experience in thread painting will be helpful, but confident beginners who are familiar with the techniques of free-motion quilting can also enjoy success in this class.
Note this is a two-day class.
Required supply list and instruction for class prep will be sent with your registration confirmation.
