April Singer Featherweight Club: Flying X and Arkansas Cross Roads

Past Class

In 1934 the Singer Manufacturing Company introduced a new sewing machine at the Chicago World’s Fair. Nicknamed the “Featherweight” because of its small size and light weight, it quickly became popular with sewists. Today it is sought after by quilters who appreciate its excellent stitch quality and ease of transport.

The Singer Featherweight Club meets monthly to sew blocks that were published weekly in the Kansas City Star newspaper from 1928 to 1961. The blocks have been updated using modern tools and techniques instead of templates.

This month you will use the Tucker Trimmer to precisely piece half-square triangles to form the blocks.
