May Singer Featherweight Club: Fence Row, Depression, and Bonus Blocks

Upcoming Class

In 1934 the Singer Manufacturing Company introduced a new sewing machine at the Chicago World’s Fair. Nicknamed the “Featherweight” because of its small size and light weight, it quickly became popular with sewists. Today it is sought after by quilters who appreciate its excellent stitch quality and ease of transport.

The Singer Featherweight Club meets monthly to sew blocks that were published weekly in the Kansas City Star newspaper from 1928 to 1961. The blocks have been updated using modern tools and techniques instead of templates.

In May we will sew the “Fence Row” and “Depression” blocks. Students will also receive instructions for two “bonus blocks”: “Flying Colors” and “Four Patch Fox and Geese.”

The registration fee does not include the cost of supplies. Click on the link below to view the supply list for this class.
