Rachel Rossi Trunk Show: Tradition Gone Modern

Meet Rachel Rossi, the owner and designer of Rachel Rossi Design. Her passion for modern quilt design is firmly rooted in the belief that people who sew and quilt have a special opportunity to create something more than a beautiful quilt- they contribute to a community of hospitality, thoughtfulness, and love. Rachel aims to grow this community through innovative patterns, a helpful blog, and teaching everywhere she can.

Rachel launched Rachel Rossi Design in 2015 and has since produced over 30 patterns in a broad range of styles, including art quilts, paper piecing, appliqué, and traditional block styles. You'll see quilts made with these patterns and learn more about Rachel and her design process.

When she's not sewing, Rachel enjoys spending time with her husband and daughter in their Lancaster County home. She is program director at the Lancaster Modern Quilt Guild, and is often traveling throughout the year to various quilt shows and events.

"I think that the gift of quilting is so important, and that's why I aim to bring it to the next generation in a fresh and innovative way. I hope that you'll join me in my mission and create a world that is beautiful and maybe one quilt warmer."

This event will be held on the second floor of The Old Country Store, and includes refreshments.

Surf Song Bargello Quilt RETREAT

Do you love the look of Bargello quilts, but are intimidated by the construction and colors? Don't let that stop you! Bring a friend and enjoy a fun weekend together learning how simple the quilt really is.

Once you've done this Bargello quilt, you will have the necessary foundation to tackle any Bargello design that you desire. In fact, we bet you won't be able to stop at just one!

This retreat runs from Friday evening through Sunday morning. A light welcome dinner on Friday evening is included. Students are responsible for all other meals and lodging.

A required supply list and additional information will be sent with your registration confirmation.

Double Wedding Ring Quilt RETREAT

The Double Wedding Ring is one of the most recognized quilt patterns. However, many quilters stop short of making this lovely quilt because of the small pieces and curved seams used in its construction.

Rather than fear this quilt, let Lois teach you how to piece it using John Flynn’s strip piecing method. The workbook you'll use has easy step by step directions and simple illustrations that will make your weekend sewing relaxing and fun.

Plan to leave with a treasured quilt top or table runner that you can display with pride.

This retreat runs from Friday evening through Sunday morning. A light welcome dinner on Friday evening is included. Students are responsible for all other meals and lodging.

A required supply list and additional information will be sent with your registration confirmation.

Weaver Fever Quilt RETREAT

Do you like Bargello patterns but find them intimidating? Well, this Bargello-style quilt is especially fun to make and very easy to sew. The fun begins with choosing the fabrics and continues with seeing how quickly the blocks go together through easy rotary cutting and strip piecing.

In this retreat, you choose the challenge...easy is the "Three-ver", moderate is the "Four-ver" (pictured at right) and most challenging is the "Five-ver".

Because this pattern is all straight seam sewing (no curves) plan for a relaxing weekend, with time to visit with your quilty "neighbors", drink coffee, and enjoy our town's delicious, local food.

This retreat runs from Friday evening through Sunday morning. A light welcome dinner on Friday evening is included. Students are responsible for all other meals and lodging.

The required pattern will be ordered for you according to your choice as explained above.

A required supply list (fabric and notions) and additional information will be sent with your registration confirmation.

Tennessee Waltz Quilt

Join instructor, Lois Zimmerman, for another fun weekend retreat. Attendees of Lois's past retreats know she enjoys traditional patterns that can be given a modern look by using untraditional fabrics. Tennessee Waltz is one of those patterns.

While the piecing techniques used are not complicated, they require precision and a lot of “squaring up”, so this project is not for the faint of heart.

Tennessee Waltz has also been called the "54-40 or Fight" pattern, a historical name from 1844 based on political opinions and controversies. However, for this retreat we will lay aside opinions and controversies and have a fun “sew-filled” weekend together.

Each attendee is required to own a copy of the book, "Tennessee Waltz", by Sue Bouchard for Quilt in a Day. The "Triangle in a Square" ruler set, also by Quilt in a Day, is highly recommended as well. These items (both available at The Old Country Store) are not included in the cost of the retreat.

This retreat runs from Friday evening through Sunday afternoon. A light welcome dinner on Friday evening is included. Students are responsible for all other meals and lodging.
