Upcoming Class
There are numerous ways to bind a quilt: using straight or decorative stitches, monofilament or colored threads, machine or hand stitching, and with or without overlocking the edges. There are even specific presser feet designed to perform the operation in one step.
Using a serger for binding gives a secure edge to the quilt and prevents “leakage” of the batting through the hand stitched edge, which can be seen at times, particularly when using wool batting. The serger fastens the binding securely and gives a stable surface for either hand or machine sewing of the binding to the back of the quilt. The four thread overlock stitch gives the extra security of two stitching lines to help lock the edges of the quilting stitches in place. It makes it easy to miter the corners of the quilt. Fusible thread can be used to attach the binding to the back of the quilt prior to the fina
step.
In this class students will use a serger to attach binding to placemats and complete the process using the Bernina sewing machines in the classroom to end the class with a completely bound placemat.
The registration fee does not include the cost of supplies. Click on the link below to view the supply list for this class. You will need to bring your own serger to class.
This class will be held in Classroom 2.
